This really really struck me! Thank you. Honest and direct and, truly, whimsical. If you were to recommend one Mary Karr book what would it be? Or one to start? Blessings to you and your family, you’ve been in my prayers ✨
I really enjoyed this note. Before my evangelical bubble popped, I was convinced I could *only* write about suffering and Very Christian Things. Because of that, I never felt or sounded like myself. It’s been so delightful (and healing!) to play with different stories, words, ideas, and mediums these last several years. Sometimes the writing is serious. Sometimes it’s not. But all of it matters to me now, and the (self-imposed?) pressure is off.
"Life-infested waters." I like that thought. Just wrote 10 minutes about me and my mom. Even after my mom has flown to heaven I still wish I had her approval. I love the word "whimsy" and I am definitely going to be reading some of Mary Karr. Thanks for the recommendation. When reading this note Erma Bombeck came to mind. Probably not at all like Mary Kart but she had a way of writing that so many could relate to.
Been loving these. “Joy crouching at the door.” Your portrait of your mom. There’s some stuff to ponder.
Thanks, Becky.

Thanks, Elizabeth. For memoir, I’d say Lit. For poetry, Sinners Welcome.

Thank you, Erika. “Delightful,” “play”—those are words I like to hear.
